DARO: Persatuan Insan Istimewa Daerah Daro Matu (Idam), or Daro Matu District Special People Association, has opened up two acres of land near Kampung Badong for the growing of vegetables and fruits.

Idam secretary Masni Mahdi said the initiative aimed to provide job opportunities to the disabled and help them increase their incomes.

According to him, Idam provides a return of up to 80 percent to each programme participant while the other 20 percent is for the association.

“The vegetable and fruit cultivation project started last October. It is expected to yield results within the next two or three months.”

Masni added Idam had 11 volunteers who were monitoring the participants’ progress and guiding them.

He said the association was confident of attracting more participants following the positive response from the local community.

“We hope that the community will fully support the project so that the efforts that have been put into are worth the returns,” he added.
