Indian delegation in town to explore collaborations

KUCHING: A delegation from the Indian High Commission in Malaysia will be in Sarawak until Sept 21.

The delegation led by the High Commissioner B.N. Reddy arrived on Sept 18.

During their visit, they are scheduled to pay a courtesy call to the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi.

They are also expected to meet with the top management of Sarawak Energy; Petroleum Sarawak Bhd; Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC); and Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC).

According to a press release, the focus of these meetings would be to understand the business and investment priorities of Sarawak and explore potential mutually beneficial collaborations with Indian companies in the fields of digital economy, information technology, infrastructure, renewable energy and many others.

A high-level business delegation led by founder-chairman of Consortium of Indian Industries in Malaysia (CIIM) Datuk Umang Sharma is accompanying Reddy during the visit.

Reddy is also expected to hold interactive meetings with the Indian community, businesses, community leaders, as well as students in the state.

The interaction will be aimed at understanding the well-being of the Indian diaspora in Sarawak and engaging in discussions in general.

The High Commissioner is also likely to visit the ISKCON temple and the Gurudwara Sahib in Kuching.

He will also be attending of the opening of the Travel Agent Federation of India (TAFI) Convention from Sept 20 to 23.
