KUCHING: The Petroleum Sarawak (PETROS) Industry Connect event will play a significant role in encouraging Sarawak’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to seize the opportunities in the oil, gas, and energy sectors.

Energy and Environmental Sustainability Deputy Minister Dr Hazland Abang Hipni asserted that the event should be emulated for other industries as well.

Such an event, he said, will help Sarawak advance towards achieving the goals outlined in the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

He added that PCDS 2030 is the guide towards a better and stronger Sarawak, with creating more business and job opportunities.

“It also accelerates capability building at the forefront to realise the aspiration of being a developed state by 2030 and being a thriving society where everyone enjoys economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and a sustainable environment.

“Engagements, such as Industry Connect, will be an important catalyst in supporting Sarawak’s SME’s towards capturing the opportunities in the oil and gas and energy industry.

“PETROS is the enabler in developing the right strategies to increase participation of Sarawak contractors in the energy sector,” he said when officiating at the closing of the inaugural Industry Connect, co-hosted by the Sarawak Business Federation (SBF) yesterday.

Represented by SBF president Datuk Seri Abg Abdul Karim Tun Abg Openg, the Industry Connect event is aimed at sharing of PETROS’s role in the management of the oil and gas resource in Sarawak.

Additionally, prospects for the local business community, particularly those in the oil, gas and energy sectors as well as details about upcoming projects PETROS will be working on were also highlighted.

In case they haven’t already, PETROS also explained how the business community can sign up to become one of its vendors. A Q&A session followed the sharing session.
