Initiatives to spur online business

Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development (Mintred) has implemented various initiatives to assist Sarawakian entrepreneurs to run their businesses digitally.

Mintred Assistant Minister Datuk Mohd Naroden Majaissaid his ministry had carried out several programmes that target youth throughout the state.

“The ministry had organised 23 e-commerce programmes across the state which benefitted 621 youth. We also offer RM5,000 in Sarawak e-Commerce and Innovation grant to entrepreneurs who want to participate in digital marketing and adopt e-payment system,” he said in response to Martin Ben (PBB-Kedup) during the DUN sitting today.

He said among other initiatives are Platform Bazaar Rakyat Online Sarawakku Sayang (Bross) and Sarawak Entrepreneurship Grant, both aimed at encouraging entrepreneurs to embrace the digital economy through various digital technologies.

“About 7,600 small entrepreneurs, to date, are participating in Bross, with a total transaction for the Ramadan fasting month alone at RM35 million,” said Naroden.

Apart from that, he said that his ministry also assists entrepreneurs and small businesses to promote their products or services online through various social media as well as e-commerce and e-payment platforms.

“The grants are offered to entrepreneurs who utilise e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Lazada, Helpy and e-payment including SarawakPay, Boost, Touch n’ Go and Grab Pay to promote their products.

“Programmes including Shopee dropshipping course, Digital Kenyalang Achievers, YouTubers Entrepreneur Workshop as well as TikTok and Instagram business courses are also available for entrepreneurs,” he added.
