KUCHING: Installation of street lights along the Samarahan Bridge exit junction near Kampung Tambay up to Asajaya district is going smoothly.

Rural and Regional Development Deputy Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang said once the project is fully completed, it would provide comfort and safety to road users, especially those who commute at night.

“Hopefully, this project will go smoothly and be completed on schedule,” she said in a Facebook post.

Earlier, Rubiah, who is also the Kota Samarahan MP, inspected the street light installation project before proceeding to a work visit to the Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority in Kota Samarahan.

In November last year, Rubiah said the street light installation project from Tambey to Sampun under the management of Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA) was in the process of implementation.

She said the street lighting installation project along the coastal road involved three main phases and included seven state constituencies.

“For phase one and phase two, it is estimated that nearly 3,800 lamp posts will be installed from Stakan, Muara Tuang, Asajaya, Sadong Jaya, Simunjan, Gedong, and Sebuyau.

“The third phase covers the access roads to the villages in all the state constituencies and it is estimated that more than 3,000 poles will be installed in the affected areas.”
