KUCHING: The police are closely monitoring the online activities of the terrorist group, Islamic State (IS), in Malaysia, assures chairman of Sarawak Patriot Association Datuk John Lau Pang Heng.

He said in a press statement yesterday that the Inspector General of Police Malaysia Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani has advised the public not to be alarmed by media reports about IS propaganda, assuring them that the state of national security remained under control.

“The Al Malaka Media Centre, an organisation linked to IS media outlets in Indonesia and the Philippines, is believed to be supporting a radical political party and an established radical organisation in Malaysia.

“The public is being encouraged not to allow these groups to grow as they have the potential to spark indiscriminate small-scale violence in the country.

“The Malaysian government is fully aware that IS groups are attempting to increase their influence in the country,” he said.

However, he added, the security forces are keeping a close watch on their activities to ensure the safety and security of the country and calling on the public to assist the authorities by remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activity to the police.

“However, we have full confidence in our Malaysian police in monitoring the IS activities in Malaysia.

“The Malaysian government is also aware that IS groups like to increase their influence in the country. But the IS activities are closely watched by the Malaysia security forces.”

Lau called upon the authorities to continue monitoring the IS activities to ensure Malaysia is a safe, secure, and peaceful country.
