KUCHING: The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is making a positive impact in the community through its monthly initiative of distributing 500 free vegetarian meals to the public.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said through advocacy for vegetarianism, the society continues to embody the principles of compassion, generosity, and holistic well-being, making a positive difference in the lives of many.

“Under the leadership of ISKCON Kuching chairman Reverend Prabu Kripa, the society has experienced significant growth and inclusivity, welcoming members from various ethnic backgrounds.

“Despite being a relatively small community, they have the means to prepare 500 packs of food every month, this speaks a lot about the centre and this reflects their dedication and blessings.

“The initiative not only serves as a means of providing nourishment to those in need but also aims to promote the benefits of a vegetarian diet,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters after the distribution of the free vegetarian meals at 3rd Mile wet market here today (Apr 7).

Meanwhile, Prabu said with the health concerns on the rise, it is important to practise vegetarianism as a healthy lifestyle choice.

“Vegetarianism is a healthy diet, nowadays many people have health issues, and this is a way to promote vegetarian food to our community.

“Besides distributing here, we also distribute food to the other organisations such as the old folks home, orphanage and also villages. We are very happy doing this charity, we love our people,” he said.
