KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government is very supportive towards the welfare and role of the Village Security and Development Committees (JKKKs).
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said, “Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has announced in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting that the government will allocate RM100 million to support the committee.
“This proves the government’s commitment towards the role of the JKKKs in Sarawak.”
Uggah added that they (JKKKs) should not be worried of their welfare and role in the state, even without support from the federal government.
“We are able to handle it ourselves with the allocation announced by Abang Johari. We, as your appointed leaders, will work hard to provide assistance,” he said during JKKK Taman Malihah Phase 1 and 2 fund raising dinner at Penview Convention Centre, Demak on Friday.
At the function, Uggah presented grants totalling RM69,000 to support the JKKK committees. The amount comprised of RM20,000 each to JKKK Taman Malihah Phase 1 and 2, another RM20,000 for repairing of their storehouse, RM3,000 each to the Women Bureau Taman Malihah Phase 1 and 2 and RM3,000 to the Taman Malihah Cultural Troupe to carry out its activities.
