Jobless man gets six months for possession of stolen items

KUCHING: A jobless man was sentenced to six months in prison on Friday (Oct 28) by the Magistrates’ Court here for possession of stolen items.

Hasrollah Salleh, 31, pleaded guilty before magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi to a charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which carries a minimum of six months in prison and a maximum of five years as well as a fine, if convicted.

He was charged with having stolen property at a shopping mall in Tabuan Jaya here on Oct 25, around 9.31pm.

According to the facts of the case, on Oct 25, at 6am, the complainant woke up to discover that several items, including four smartphones, had gone missing.

He suspected that the items had been stolen by the accused, who had stayed overnight at his place.

The complainant subsequently filed a police report, which resulted in the arrest of the accused on the same day. Investigation revealed that the accused had kept the complainant’s property.
