ASAJAYA: Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah believes national Muay Thai athlete, Muhammad Johan Ghazali Zulfika, known as Jojo, has the potential to become a world champion in the field.

The Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development said that he would provide support to ensure that the career of the 16-year-old athlete would expand from time to time.

He explained that Jojo is among the young talents who have been given attention since his participation in the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) last year until now.

“We always give support either financially or morally.

“The matter does not only involve Muay Thai, other sports whether listed or not in SUKMA we do help,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after officiating at the 60th Anniversary of the Sarawak Merdeka Convoy at the Asajaya District Samarahan Divisional Level at the Asajaya Sports Complex here today.

According to Abdul Karim, Jojo’s success is largely due to his parents who are seen as committed to the development of their children in the sport.

“I see that his (Jojo’s) victory is the result of the full encouragement given by his parents which I believe has had a strong impact on him.

“That’s why any type of sport, if there is support from a close family, success will definitely come,” he said.

In line with this, he expressed his congratulations to Jojo for winning the title for the third time in the ONE Championship.

For the record, Jojo managed to knock down an opponent from Thailand, Samurai Seeopal at the Lumpinee Stadium, Bangkok on Friday.
