KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii is committed to continue empowering the city’s youth through various platforms.

He said he envisions a future where the energy and innovative spirit of young individuals drive initiatives promoting entrepreneurship and celebrating Kuching’s vibrant arts and culture.

“That is why today we start with the ‘Love Bandar Kuching Pop-Up Market’ right here in the historic courthouse.

“From here, we learn and appreciate our history, but also learn to write our own history for ourselves, our brand, our product and our business,” he said.

He said this in his speech when officiating the ‘Love Bandar Kuching Pop-Up Market’ held at Kuching Old Court House here last night (May 3).

Dr Yii, who is also Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (DAPSY) chief, said the ‘Love Bandar Kuching’ Initiative aims to unite the city’s communities, foster love for the city and promote the entrepreneurial spirit among Sarawak’s youth.

“The vision is to create an identity and culture that unites everyone, fosters love for the city, and encourages the creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit of young Sarawakians.

“I always believe that the growth and developments of any nation, any city, we must not forget the development of the ‘heart’, which is developed through arts, culture, creativity, and innovation,” he added.

He also noted the enthusiastic response of young entrepreneurs to the market and reiterated his commitment to investing in and promoting platforms that empower youth.

“I hope this initiative will grow beyond just the event today. Imagine a platform that is not just about business transactions, but about fostering a community of mentorship, support, and collaboration.

“We will continue to provide them with the tools, knowledge, and support they need to turn their visions into realities.

Regarding the pop-up market, the three-day event (May 3-5, 11am-11pm) will include The Next Entrepreneur seminar, ‘In Focus’ Photography Talk, and a Kids Colouring Contest.
