BINTULU: The sport of jombola, a homegrown Malaysian game, is poised to gain traction at both national and international stages.

The Murum assemblyman and Sarawak Jombola Association president, Chukpai Kennedy Ugon, introduced jombola as a unique Malaysian invention.

“Jombola is a sport that can be enjoyed by everyone in the family. Since it uses a ‘Foam Ball’, there’s minimal risk of injury. Moreover, the equipment is budget-friendly, making it accessible to many,” Chukpai said following his meeting with Youth and Sports Minister, Hannah Yeoh, at Parliament recently.

Chukpai further said, “I am hopeful that the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) will back the growth of jombola. With their support and partnerships with other agencies, we can popularise jombola across Malaysia. Ultimately, I envision it being part of major events like SUKMA, the SEA Games, and even on the global stage.”

Also present was the Malaysian Jombola Association president Sukdev Singh.
