PAKAN: The Julau Idol 2023 Piala Datuk Larry Song Wei Shien is a platform to produce new talents from Pakan and Julau districts in particular.

Its chairman Kevin Jampang Ranggak stated the competition also aimed to expand the experience in musicals and aesthetic awareness in addition to providing opportunities and space to the youth in urban and rural community development programmes.

Moreover, he said that a programme such as this acted as an alternative activity to fill the folks’ free time positively.

“As an organiser, I hope that this kind of competition will be held again in the future so that the new talent can be successfully unearthed.

“For the competition this time around, the winner has a chance to win a cash prize of RM2,000 and record a single sponsored by Gilson’s Production while the first runner-up will bring back RM1,500, third place (RM1,000) and RM250 each for two consolation prize winners,” he said.

For the record, the first screening of this competition took place last Saturday (May 6) at Dewan Masyarakat Pakan.

Meanwhile, the second screening will be held on May 14 at 9 am at Julau Community Hall and is open to all Sarawakians.

“Youths, aged 15 to 40, are welcome to attend this second round and registration forms can be found at the Julau MP Service Centre (Pakan and Julau Branch) during office hours. Participation fee for the competition is RM50.

“For the screening, participants are required to bring their own minus one music of any genre.

This Julau Idol 2023 Piala is being organised by Julau MP Service Centre in collaboration with Pekan Pekan Youth Club and the Julau District Information Department.
