Juvenile sent to Henry Gurney School

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here today (Dec 7) sentenced a teenage boy to three years at the Henry Gurney School for stealing a motorcycle at a driving training centre in Matang last July.

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan passed the sentence after a moral report hearing from the Department of Social Welfare today.

He pleaded guilty to charges under Section 379A of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same code.

The boy was accused, along with a friend, of stealing a Honda motorcycle belonging to a 19-year-old man at a driving training centre in Matang, around 10.51am on July 30.

According to the facts of the case, during the incident, the complainant realised that his motorcycle, placed in the motorcycle area at a driving training centre, had been stolen.

A police report was filed for further investigation, leading to the arrest of the accused in Ops Cantas on August 22.

The investigation found that the accused had stolen the complainant’s motorcycle based on the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage at the scene.

The parade of witnesses during the incident also positively identified the face of the accused.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
