SARATOK: Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri has issued a reminder to the public to remain vigilant against phone scams, citing a recent case involving a teacher from Saratok.
“Awareness campaigns have been carried out extensively by the authorities. However, fraudsters are cunning. They use various methods to deceive their victims.
“Therefore, I advise the public, especially civil servants targeted by syndicates, to be more cautious…don’t be easily deceived. Most importantly, don’t hesitate to seek advice or guidance from trusted sources or the police,” he said after a programme here on Wednesday (Dec 6).
The recent case involved a teacher in her 30s who received a call accusing her of wrongdoing, causing her to panic. She lost RM150,000 to the scammers.
“The police suggest not entertaining phone calls from unknown individuals. Don’t panic or worry about unfounded accusations. Never disclose banking information to others. Alternatively, you can contact the National Scam Response Centre at 997 if you fall victim to cyber fraud and have recently made a money transfer,” Mohamad added.
He had attended a Community Health Screening Programme organised by the Malaysian Kidney Foundation Samarahan Division in collaboration with the Village Development and Safety Committee.
The event included free health screenings and a colouring competition for students from SK Haji Bollah.
Betong Division health officer Dr Norhaizam Ahmad Narawi and Malaysian Kidney Foundation Samarahan Division coordinator Nurizatul Jelani were also present.
