KUCHING: The Kampung Haji Baki hawker centre’s ongoing upgrading extension project is expected to bring about an economic and business boost for the area’s residents.

This popular hawker centre, well-received by the locals, has become a thriving hub, according to Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang.

Originally built to cater to the residents of Kampung Haji Baki, the hawker centre has witnessed a flourishing business environment.

Recognising the centre’s significance, Lo pointed out that the extension project would create a larger space for existing hawkers and aspiring entrepreneurs.

“The objective is to improve the condition of the hawker centre and enhance the overall experience for customers visiting this vibrant area,” he told the media during the handover of the project on Wednesday (July 12).

The extension project, set to conclude by the end of this year, carries a price tag of RM212,400.

Commencing on July 11, it encompasses various enhancements, including the installation of wall cladding and aluminum louvers on top of the existing roofing, the construction of water meter protection, the provision of digital electric meters for each hawker shop-lot, and the addition of a new prayer room.
