KUCHING: Kampung Metang Terap has the potential to be developed as an ecotourism destination in the future.

“The Santubong parliamentary constituency as a whole is indeed one of the seven ‘tourism belts’ in Sarawak. From Santubong to Telok Melano, it is called so because of its natural value.

“Therefore, we need to develop this area by building more infrastructure so that roads can be created.

“The road is already there but it needs to be improved,” she said.

She said this when met by the media after attending the Sarawak Alternative Water Supply Project (SAWAS) opening ceremony in Kampung Metang Terap, Lundu on Tuesday (Nov 15).

She added, looking from an economic point of view, the area had many tourism products to offer.

“Therefore, whether or not I still hold the portfolio as Motac minister, this area still needs to be developed to continue tourism activities here.”

In the meantime, she also called on the local community to create interesting activities to attract tourists.

“This is important, thus opening up opportunities to develop more tourism products here.”

Meanwhile, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Julaihi Narawi also expressed confidence that Kampung Metang Terap had the potential to be highlighted on the tourism map under Nancy’s leadership.

“I believe she can make this a reality if she still holds the position of Motac minister.”
