Karim opposes the idea of flying the Sarawak’s colonial flag on Sarawak Day

KUCHING: Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah does not support the flying of Sarawak’s colonial flag on Sarawak Day this July 22.

The idea of flying the colonial flag is wrong and I hope this matter is taken seriously, he said.

A flag is a representation of dignity and pride, this shows the importance of what a flag represents,” he said to the media at Baitulmakmur 2 in Petra Jaya.

He pointed out that the purpose of standing straight when singing the national anthem ‘Negaraku’ and ‘Ibu Pertiwiku’ when raising the flag shows the importance of what a flag means.

“A flag signifies a nation’s pride, if we were to go to war that is what we must uphold and if anyone is to change the flag, you will be charged.”

In this respect he said the question of flying the colonial flag on Sarawak Day must thus be taken seriously so that this won’t cause problems in the future.
