Dr Annuar delivers his speech

SIBU: University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) graduates were on Saturday reminded that education is not just a means to achieve goals, but a lifelong effort for growth and enlightenment.

Its chairman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, advised the graduates not to stop learning, questioning and seeking answers.

“The world is evolving at a rate never seen before, and it is up to you to become agents of positive change.

“As respected university graduates, you have a responsibility to contribute to the society in Sarawak, to make a difference and lead with integrity,” he said during the 7th UTS Convocation Ceremony held at the Dewan Canselor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud here.

Dr Annuar who is Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development said each of the graduates will respond to these challenges and leave an unforgettable impact on the world.

“Today, as you step into the next phase of your life, armed with the knowledge and skills you have acquired, I encourage you to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead,” he said.

He said the graduates have successfully overcome rigorous academic challenges, embraced opportunities for personal development and emerged as well-rounded individuals ready to make their mark in the world.

“As we stand here today, we can reflect on the remarkable journey that has brought us to this moment. Each of you came to this university with dreams and aspirations, seeking knowledge and enlightenment.

“Over the years, you have engaged in intellectual debates, pursued research endeavours, collaborated on innovative projects, and actively participated in co-curricular activities.

“You have absorbed the values of integrity, respect and diversity that are the core of this university,” he added.

He also said that the celebration is not only about individual achievements of the graduates but also recognising the invaluable support and guidance they have received throughout their journey.

“I express my gratitude to the academic staff of UTS who have shared their knowledge, inspired graduates to think beyond boundaries, and challenged them to reach new heights,” he said.

Dr Annuar acknowledged their dedication to teaching and mentoring, which played a vital role in shaping the graduates’ academic journey.

“I also want to recognise the continuous support of your families and loved ones. They have been your pillars of strength, providing encouragement and motivation during times of self-doubt. Their belief in your abilities has helped you overcome obstacles and achieve your goals,” he said.

Also present was UTS Vice-Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid.
