KUCHING: The 20th edition of the Malaysian Games (Sukma 2022) will be held in Kuala Lumpur instead of Johor this year.

It follows the federal cabinet’s agreement after Johor applied for the postponement of the games which should have been held in the state as the host this year.

Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) acting CEO Semawi Mohammad disclosed this at a press conference held at Pandelela Aquatic Centre in Petra Jaya here yesterday.

Sarawak’s 325 shortlisted athletes will be competing in 21 sports events comprising 16 compulsory sports and five choice sports.

The compulsory sports include Aquatics, Badminton, Bicycle race, Football, Hockey, Karate, Lawn Bowls, Archery, Shooting, Athletics and Tenpin Bowling.

Although the athletes have been continuously going through various training programmes, now all shortlisted athletes will be undergoing intensive training programmes to better prepare for SUKMA 2022, Semawi said.
