MIRI: Kolej Komuniti Miri (KKM) is strengthening collaboration with 10 strategic partners to create a skilled future workforce.

Minister of Transport Sarawak Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said the strategic collaboration is to impart students from KKM with skills and develop their knowledge via practical training at these respective companies.

These 10 companies are Jeffery Phang architect; Samling Group of Companies; Nas Design; Perkeso; CASA; MIWT Training Centre; Coco Cabana; NKP Yong Seng; Ano Hotel and Fosen MOKUZAI.

Earlier Lee, who is also KKM’s chairman of the board of advisors, witnessed the signing ceremony of the collaboration held at a leading hotel here today.

He added the collaboration between KKM with these companies was a wonderful opportunity for the institution (KKM) to synergize its collective expertise and resources to advance the noble cause of talent development.

Hence, he said parents should consider enrolling their children to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and discard negative perception towards TVET as a second choice for weak students compared with the conventional academic field.

“TVET and apprenticeships are still undervalued by parents as a viable route into employment. This mindset must change,” he said during the event.

“The employability rate of KKM’s graduates is more than 95 per cent each year,” he said.
