KUCHING: A Sarawak-Singapore consortium – FutureData Sdn Bhd – formed by the TSG Group, will develop the largest renewable energy 200MW data centre park in Kota Samarahan.

TSG Group chief executive officer Datuk Chris Chung said the establishment of the new company is to position Sarawak as an innovative integrated model for green data centres to shape the state’s future.

He said the new company will design, build, and operate a cutting-edge carbon neutral green data centre that utilises energy-efficient technologies, adding that this will be the first major data centre not only in Sarawak but in Borneo.

“The time has come for us to further explore the potential of Sarawak by tapping into the positive outlook of the domestic data centre industry and the rising demand for cloud services in the region.

“This project is in conjunction with our technical partner, Cyclect Group Singapore, which is a multidisciplinary sustainable engineering and maintenance solutions provider that has been operating for over eight decades with a global presence in nine countries.

“We are working on a build-to-suit data centre model. In partnership with Cyclect’s expertise and our 800 local staff with project implementation experience, we will have flexible solutions that allow our international partners to design and customise data centre facilities and operations to meet different needs,” he said at the Shape the World Summit 2023 gala dinner here last night (June 21).

Chung said the data centre will be developed into a new integrated green district called FutureGreen District where healthcare, education, high-end residential properties for people from overseas seeking a second home in Kuching which are all powered by green infrastructure such as implementing a circular economy and producing green energy from each household that can also contribute to the grid.

“It will be ‘Green Living’ by systems design covering from power, lifestyle, recycling and how a Sarawakian version of green lifestyle can truly take shape. It will require a shift in mindsets and behaviours,” he said.

At the same time, Chung said TSG Group is committed to ensuring that its initiatives remain in line with the state government’s vision in realising the vast possibilities of Sarawak.

“Through this project, TSF hopes to implement a viable sustainability development on a scale that can showcase Sarawak as a gate work cybercity, a green city featuring green data centre and creating green as well as digital jobs for the young people,” he said.
