KUCHING: Representatives of Sarawak, Kuching FA made a surprise when they reached the quarter-finals of the FAM Cup 2017.

The eighth best slot was owned by Shahrizan Sahari’s team after their closest rivals SAMB FC lost 0-2 in the hand of Penjara FC on last weekend.

“We are quite happy with the success qualified to he quarter-finals,” said team manager Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, after Kuching FA maintained fourth place in Group B with 18 points.

“This is our first season to compete in the FAM Cup 2017 and it’s a pretty good achievement,” he said.

The success will be a boost for the players to continue their excellence performance to play an important game (quarter final), he added.

Fazzrudin said that his side’s early goal of the season is to qualify for the quarter-finals.

“The rivalry that brings together the top eight teams will start and I believe everything is possible,” he said.

“And it is not impossible for Kuching FA to advance to the next level,” he added.

The Kuching FA team are guided by young trainers, Sharizan Sahari and Ideris Untong.

They are further reinforced by Sarawak players such as Sufizal Ismail, Ismail Bujang, Zulhamizan Bujang and several local players.
