Kuching Teokhiaw Club to mark 102nd anniversary

KUCHING: The Teokhiaw Club here has extended its invite to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for its 102nd anniversary of its formal registration.

The celebration which will take place at Hoi Tin Loi Banquet Hall tomorrow (Aug 19) at 7 pm will also be attended by a number of VIPs, sponsors and guests from Chaozhou China, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Sandakan.

According to its statement, the leaders of the Chaozhou, China music group and their members responded enthusiastically to join the celebration dinner and to perform a number of Chaozhou traditional cultural folk art to entertain the guests.

Aside from that, they had also extended their invite to Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian yesterday.

For the record, it stated that the Teokhiaw Club here has always been adhering to the founding purpose, actively and continuously inheriting and learning Teochew culture folk art while promoting the friendship between Teochew folk in Malaysia and China.

“Among all, we also organised Teochew groups of teenagers for summer and winter camps, trips to their hometown for rekindling their cultural roots, study and tour,” it said.

At the same time, it said, through the online network and the relevant units of the hometown, the interaction and exchange of traditional Chinese festivals and activities to promote online learning of Teochew dialect were also carried out with enthusiastic responses. 

“The Teokhiaw Club Orchestra has also cultivated many young talented musicians, who will participate in performances this year.

“During the celebration, there will be full of loud drums and melodious poems that welcome our very special guests from all over the world, while overwhelming our guests with wonderful traditional songs and music,” it said.
