KUCHING: A total of 325 students and 16 teachers from seven schools here recently participated in a Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) Excellence Workshop in Malay and History.

The workshop was organised by the Al Bait Leadership Foundation (YKAB) in collaboration with the Sarawak Islamic Complex Management (PKIS) yesterday (Nov 23).

Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie, the general manager of Tabungan Baitumal Sarawak, highlighted that the workshop was part of the Corporate Social Responsibility Programme organised by PKIS and Al Bait Educational Activities under YKAB’s management.

“This event is part of our initiative to assist the students to prepare them for the upcoming SPM examination. Apart from that, we also provide them with the opportunity to answer mock questions, especially for Malay and History.

“The intention is to teach them the right approach to study and answer the questions in accordance to the marking scheme and under the guidance of experienced teachers. I believe this will help them a lot,” he said.

Moreover, Abang Mohd Shibli highlighted the voluntary nature of the programme, stating that the choice of subjects taught at the workshop is tailored to the needs of both teachers and students.

“We have the infrastructure should the schools need help with organising such programmes, and we are also ready to finance certain programmes.

“These teachers have the initiative and expertise to organise and teach. With this, they extended invitations to students from other schools, providing them with valuable learning opportunities,” he added.

This workshop, in its second edition, was given free of charge to all students involved who will be sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exam soon.

The History Workshop was conducted by Adibah Abdul Latif, a History teacher with over 10 years of experience, while the Malay language workshop was led by Rashid Bujang, a teacher with 25 years of experience.
