SIBU: Members of Lions District 308-A2 are planning to distribute 6,000 history reference books to poor and needy students aged 15 to 17.

District governor Kapitan Ronny Hiew said this is to help them attain success in public examinations.

Moreover, he pointed out it is to also improve their chances of higher education, nurture their values and a love for history.

It is one of the two upcoming projects initiated by Lions District 308-A2, he said at the installation of Lions Club of Sibu Pahlawan (LCSP) office bearers and fund raising banquet here on Saturday.

He said the second project is the “Lions in action -serving together to make a world of difference” from Jan 18 to 20, 2024.

“This is will be a road journey by teams of Lions Club members from Kuching and Tawau with a total distance of 1,500 kilometres ending in Miri.

“The five global causes and mission of membership drive will be implemented along the journey, and at the same time, we build team bonding, have great fun and fellowship with fellow Lions members in various places,” Hiew said.

Earlier, the newly installed LCSP president Kong Tze Ling said he joined the Lions Club because he has the enthusiasm and determination to serve the community.

He said since the club was established in 2000, and for 23 years, the members have always adhered to the original intention of serving.

Looking back on the past year, he pointed out that under the leadership of president Dr David Ling, the club has achieved impressive results.

“Facing the new year, we hope that our team can “empower each other, take love as the core, and serve as the heart.”

“After taking the oath, we do not have a honeymoon period. We must immediately devote ourselves to serving the community. When the community needs assistance, we will stand up and lend a helping hand,” he added.
