Local government allocation to Sarawak highest on record

ASAJAYA: The Ministry of Local Government Development approved an allocation of RM60.1 million for 360 projects in Sarawak this year.

Minister, Nga Kor Ming said the allocation was the highest ever by the ministry to Sarawak.

“This allocation is the highest amount compared to 2021 which amounted to RM22.5 million and RM34.2 million in 2022.

“All these announced allocations are performance-based-budget allocations  to ensure the Ministry’s services and focus on the welfare of the people can continue to be improved,” he said at a press conference after officiating the new Asajaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) here on Monday (Nov 6).

Nga added that the Ministry has approved an allocation of RM661,970 to the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) for works to repair drainage and walk-ways at BDC.

“This makes the total allocation by the Ministry to MBKS to carry out 28 development projects including LED lighting replacement projects, upgrading public toilets and related works to RM3.53 million for the year 2023,” he said.

He revealed that his Ministry had channeled an allocation of RM150,000 to Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) to upgrade the pedestrian lane of India Street with the aim of providing comfort and safety for pedestrians.

In addition, he said, RM1.45 million was approved to upgrade the drainage system to prevent flash floods from happening during heavy rain.

Nga stressed that his Ministry will always work with local councils throughout Malaysia to realise development plans in order to improve the quality of services and the well-being of the people.
