SIBU: Marine police arrested a 59-year-old man for allegedly possessing 11,950 litres of diesel without a permit from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

The raid codenamed ‘Ops Kontraban’ was made at noon yesterday (Mar 27) at a store along Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, who confirmed the case, said the team detained the suspect who is believed to be the storekeeper.

The suspect failed to produce any documents to possess, store or carry controlled items or obtained special permission from KPDN.

“It led to the seizure of plastic barrels and intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) containing 11,950 litres of diesel.

“The team also seized the equipment used to fill the barrels and containers with diesel. The estimated value of the seizure is around RM59,100,” Zulkipli said.

The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

The suspect and the seized items have been handed over to KPDN Sibu for further action.
