BINTANGOR: An afternoon blaze completely destroyed the James Brandah longhouse in Muara Bunut today, resulting in partial damage to three houses and one hall.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department reports, a distress call was received at 3.33 pm, which led to the immediate dispatch of a team from the Bintangor fire station to the scene.

“The Fire Department used a ferry route to reach the location across the Rajang River at Muara Payang.

“Upon reaching the scene, the fire had already consumed one section of the longhouse, leaving it entirely burnt. However, thanks to the prompt actions of the fire department, the adjacent block, situated just 5 metres away, was successfully spared from the flames after a firebreak was established.

“Furthermore, three nearby houses and one hall sustained damage from the fire,” it said.

The fire was successfully contained by 4.26 pm. No injuries have been reported at this time, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
