SRK-reject love-2608-avk: The firearm used by the suspect in the shooting.

SARIKEI: Furious that his love proposal was rejected, a man allegedly shot a car belonging to his crush’s family member in Sungai Pinang, Jalan Wak Buku Pakan, Julau, here last Wednesday (Aug 23).

Julau police chief DSP Andam Sulin, in a statement today, said they received a report of the incident on Aug 23 at about 10.45pm.

“The complainant’s father said that his son’s Hilux car was shot on the driver’s side while returning home along Sungai Pinang, Jalan Wak Buku Pakan, Julau,” he said.

Andam said that acting on the information, a team of police arrested the suspect, a 20-year-old man, on Aug 24 at about 5.30pm.

The suspect was then taken to the Julau District Police Headquarters for further investigation.

“The suspect’s motive is revenge against the victim’s family as his love was rejected by one of the victim’s family members,” he said.

Andam said that the suspect was remanded for four days at the Julau Police Station for further investigation.

“The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 10 years,” he said.

Andam also advised the public not to take legal action on their own and not to possess homemade firearms, which are illegal under the Arms Act 1960 and can lead to prosecution under Section 8a of the Arms Act 1960.

“If convicted, a prison sentence of not more than seven years or a fine of not more than RM10,000, or both, can be imposed.

“The police will also not compromise with any party found to be in violation of the act,” he said.
