Lowest number of Covid-19 cases in over two months

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded the lowest number of Covid-19 cases in over two months on Monday (Oct 18), with only 694 cases.

The number was a slight decrease of 36 cases from Sunday’s 730.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 656 or 94.52 per cent of the new cases were Categories 1 and 2 while 38 or 5.48 per cent of the cases were Categories 3, 4 and 5.

“Kuching topped the list of new cases with 187, followed by Miri with 139, Sibu (88), Bintulu (32), Lawas (29), Limbang (26), Saratok (23), Mukah (23), Serian (18), Pusa (18), Sarikei (14), Daro (13), and Kapit (11), while only single-digit cases were reported in 22 other districts,” SDMC said in its Covid-19 daily update on Monday.

“Thirteen backlog death cases related to Covid-19 infections were also confirmed between Oct 13 and 16.

“The death cases consisted of victims aged between 28 and 85 from Sibu, Limbang, Miri and Kuching divisions.

“Of the total, 12 of the victims had histories of chronic illnesses while one of them had no history of comorbidities.”

SDMC also announced the end of eight clusters, namely Plaman Bantang Cluster in Serian, Belinggai Ulu Niah Cluster in Subis, Sepom Cluster in Serian, Pulau Brunei Cluster in Limbang, Sungai Separai 2 Cluster in Tatau, Jalan Bintulu-Miri 3 Cluster in Bintulu, Ulu Lubai Cluster in Limbang and Jalan P. Ramlee Cluster in Kuching.

“No new cases were reported in these clusters for the past 28 days, with the number of active clusters in the state now at 45.”
