KUCHING: Homegrown Betapuru Digital Studio unveiled its latest 3D-animated short film, ‘Love is Never Too Late’ to kick-off the Lunar New Year celebration.

However, it transcends the boundaries of a typical New Year film, serving as a symbol of the potential and growth within Sarawak’s animation industry.

Crafted by talented Sarawakian student interns from the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), the film explores the profound significance of family reunions in Chinese households.

Director of Betapuru Digital Studio, Shawn Mckenzie emphasised that the film goes beyond celebrating the Lunar New Year; it pays homage to the cultural heritage of the state.

“At Betapuru Digital, we believe in creating immersive experiences that resonate with audiences on a personal level.

“We aim to not only celebrate Lunar New Year but also pay homage to the rich cultural tapestry of Kuching,” he stressed.

Set against the lively Lunar New Year festivities and the enchanting backdrop of Kuching town, the narrative unfolds with a mother’s heartfelt plea for her son’s return, leading to a mix of fury and sorrow as the son’s response disappoints his parents.

The film explores the central question of whether the main character, Ah Zai, will come home for the reunion dinner and, if so, whether his family will accept him again.

Additionally, audiences will discover the emotional journey and answers within the film, as the White Cat statue plays a significant role in the storyline.

As a Sarawakian-based homegrown digital technology company, Betapuru Digital Studio specialises in 2D animation production, hyper-realism 3D-animation digital content, virtual reality immersive content, and anamorphic illusion content.

The company aims to help turn ideas into reality by delivering superior-quality digital products and unparalleled digital content.
