In response to the recent criticism faced by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing over the incident at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Azam Baki said it is a ministerial responsibility to combat corruption.

Azam expressed his positive stance on the exposure of alleged corrupt practices at the country’s entry points, emphasising that it is the duty of ministers to prevent corruption.

Addressing the issue of the minister taking a stance against corruption cases involving enforcement agencies, Azam stated, “It is not a matter of concern, and we also perceive it in a positive light,” as quoted by Berita Harian.

The MACC has already obtained statements from at least 14 individuals, including two women and eight immigration officers, concerning the incident that occurred last week, according to Azam.
