Commission will investigate reports on his power abuse

KUCHING: Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that it is investigating E-Commerce Assistant Minister Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais over allegations of power abuse.

Its state director Razim Mohd Noor said MACC has opened investigation files on the two reports made against the assistant minister.

However, Razim declined to elaborate further on the matter, but assured that MACC will give priority to solving the case.

“We have a lot of cases but this is also a priority. Yes, this is my assurance, he is a leader and this is a sensitive case, we have to take it seriously, on the truth of the accusations made against him, so it takes time.”

He noted that MACC has a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to complete its investigation papers within a given time-frame.

He said this during a press conference after witnessing the handing over of duty between outgoing state MACC Deputy Director (Prevention) Zulhairy Zaidel and his successor Chan Ching at its headquarters here yesterday.

Razim pointed out that till now MACC has yet to call Naroden, who is also Entrepreneur and SME Development Assistant Minister, to its headquarters.

He said MACC would have to assess the case thoroughly before calling him in.

According to him, as of now investigations are going smoothly without any obstacles, apart from the lack of manpower.

The background of the case is that a former journalist, Joseph Tawie, came forward to the MACC headquarters at Jalan Tun Jugah here to lodge a report against Naroden, who is also Gedong assemblyman, for allegedly owning huge tracts of land around Simunjan.

In the report, Joseph also revealed that he was also assisted by lawyer Dominique Ng, a former Padungan assemblyman, to jointly make the report on Feb 8.
