KUCHING: A man and his son-in-law were sentenced to a six-month good behaviour bond with a surety of RM500 each after pleading guilty to engaging in a heated argument that resulted in injuries to both parties.

The Magistrates’ Court on Monday (July 24) handed down the sentence to Diong Yeou Seng, 42, a supermarket manager, and Ngu Who Tai, 56, under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC).

The incident occurred at a house in Stutong here around 11.15pm on July 9, where the complainant and his wife had a disagreement. Seeking resolution, the wife contacted her father to intervene.

Upon arriving at the house, the father-in-law proceeded to physically assault his son-in-law, punching his face and body. This led to a fight between them, causing injuries to both parties.

The altercation was triggered by the father-in-law’s dissatisfaction with his son-in-law’s inability to meet his daughter’s financial demands. The complainant’s wife had scolded him for not being able to spend more during the argument.

According to the complainant, his wife had a tendency to call her father whenever they argued, and he would resort to physical violence against him.

Remarkably, it was the third time the father-in-law had resorted to violence, and the complainant had not reported the previous incidents to the police, giving him another chance.

Both parties filed police reports on the same day after the incident. Subsequent medical reports revealed that they had sustained minor injuries.

Prosecuting oOfficer Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin handled the case while the two accused did not have legal representation.
