Mambong rep distributes MRP grants

KUCHING: Four organisations yesterday received minor rural project (MRP) grants from Transportation Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.

These four organisations are International Tagang Festival Commitee, Kuching Biperoh Association, Biro Wanita Kampung Emperoh Jambu and Biro Wanita Kampung Semadang.

Dr Jerip said the RM50,000 given to the Semadang International Tagang Festival Committee will be used to cover part of the cost to organise the 5th Semadang International Tagang Festival 2019, scheduled on August 30 to September 1 at Kampung Semadang, Jalan Puncak Borneo.

For the other allocations, namely the Kuching Biperoh Association, Biro Wanita Kampung Emperoh Jambu and Biro Wanita Kampung Semadang, the money was meant for their respective activities.

The simple presentation ceremony was held at the former Penghulu, Rimong Anak Sutur’s house at Kampung Semadang, Jalan Puncak Borneo here.

Jerip also presented certificate of appreciation to Rimong for his six-year service to the community. Rimong retired two years ago due to health reasons.

Meanwhile, the 5th Semadang International Tagang Festival 2019 director Robert Kenneth said the festival was slated to be held from August 30 to September 1 at Kampung Semadang, Jalan Puncak Borneo.

He said the festival, which had been able to attract international participation, offered water sports activities, with the fishing competition as the main event and it would take place along the Semadang River (Sarawak Kiri River) as the main event.

Robert said the other interesting events were open cultural music and dance competition, Miss Tagang Beauty contest, live band entertainment, cooking competition, kayak race, a food bazaar, dart competition and children’s colouring contest.

He said two new activities had been included in this year festival – the 4X4 race, exhibition and sale of agriculture produce and products.

“For this year festival we are also bringing cultural troupes and singers from Kalimantan, Indonesia and Sabah,” added Robert.

This festival is jointly organised by the Kampung Semadang Development and Security Committee, Sarawak Agriculture Department and Kampung Semadang Tagang System Committee.
