Man gets 7 months’ jail for abusing drugs

KUCHING: A local man was sentenced to seven months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here, for involving in drug abuse activities.

Mohd Amirul Jesmi, 24, from Kampung Bintawa Ulu pleaded guilty to the charge read before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar.

Amirul was charged under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (Act 234), punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.

The charge carries a maximum fine of RM5,000 or a jail term of up to two years.

Zaiton ordered the accused to be placed under police supervision for two years after serving his time.

Based on the facts of the case, an initial screening of the accused’s urine was found to be positive for drugs while detained at Kuching NCID.

The accused’s urine sample was later taken to the Pathology Department of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and the report confirmed that he was positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
