KUCHING: A local man was sentenced to six months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here today for disposing of stolen property, a Perodua Kancil car, by selling it to another person.
Kiew, 28, pleaded guilty to one charge under Section 414 of the Penal Code, which was read before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar.
According to the charge, Kiew was accused of disposing of a stolen Perodua Kancil car owned by a 48-year-old woman at Jalan Urat Mata.
The offence carries an imprisonment term not exceeding six months and not more than seven years, and may also be liable to a fine, upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, the victim reported to the police that her car, which was parked besides her neighbour’s house, had gone missing at around 5.30 am on June 21, 2022.
The accused was successfully apprehended by the police last July 9.
The accused also led the police to an unnumbered house in Kampung Semalatong at around 4.55 pm on July 10 and successfully located the missing vehicle as reported by the victim.
Investigation findings revealed that the accused admitted to possessing the stolen property and disposing of it by selling it to someone else.
The prosecution of the case was handled by Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, while the accused was not represented by a counsel.
