Man missing after falling into river

The SAR operation conducted to locate a crane operator who fell into the river.

KAPIT: A man was reported missing after being involved in a crane accident that collapsed into a river at Log Pond logging camp, here at Nanga Emang, Rajang River.

According to state Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation centre, they received the report at 7.46pm on Sunday night.

A team of firemen led by PBK II Andrew Puing went to the Kapit police station for further information.

The operations commander reported that the victim — identified as Kiing Sih Hock — fell into the river with the crane which he operated to lift timber at 5.40pm.

Four firemen led by PB Ridzuan Kemal conducted a search and rescue (SAR) operation at the location where the incident took place at 9am, yesterday.

A Bomba Control Post (PKB) has been opened at the Police Wharf during SAR operations.

The SAR operation was carried out using rescue boats with other relief agencies within a 5km-radius from the location, along the Balleh River heading downstream.

The SAR operation will resume today.
