KUCHING: A man is missing and feared drowned while a woman was rescued after the two fell into the swirling Sungai Sarawak near Kubah Ria here on Thursday (Jan 14).

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said a report was received at 12.57pm and firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene.

“The complainant noticed that two people, a man and a woman, had been swept away by the currents across the Kubah Ria suspension bridge.

“Upon arrival at the location, a 27-year-old woman was found to have been rescued by members of the public but the male victim was swept away,” Bomba said in a statement.

The female victim was then rushed to Sarawak General Hospital for treatment.
