Man nabbed in Bau for allegedly running online gambling

BAU: Police here arrested a local man for allegedly running an online gambling sales activity in an eatery at Jalan Jambusan here, yesterday.

Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon in a statement said the suspect was apprehended during the ‘Op Dadu’ raid, which was carried out by the district’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) around 5.50pm.

“The team spotted the suspect and detained him as he was believed to be engaging in online gambling sales activity.

“The suspect’s phone and a SIM card were also seized,” he said.

He added that the 31-year-old suspect, who had no previous criminal history, was taken to the police station with the seized items.

The case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953, which carries for a fine up to RM50,000 or a jail term up to three years, if convicted.
