KUCHING: A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to a fine of RM2,000 or four months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court today (June 9) for causing damage to his mother’s property using a machete.

Azam pleaded guilty to two charges under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which were read before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

The first charge states that Azam intentionally damaged his 63-year-old mother’s property by smashing the kitchen window, resulting in a loss of RM60. The second charge states that he deliberately damaged his 34-year-old sister’s dressing table, causing a loss of RM1,300.

These incidents took place at their residence on Jalan Matang at approximately 10:03 pm on May 31.

Magistrate Zubaidah handed down a sentence of a RM1,000 fine or two months in prison for each charge imposed on Mohamad Azam.

Based on the facts of the case, during the incident, the complainant’s younger brother suddenly became enraged and began wielding a machete, resulting in the destruction of the kitchen window and dressing table.

It is understood that the trigger for the incident was the accused’s anger upon discovering that a sum of RM50 had gone missing from his wallet.

Concerned about their safety and the well-being of other family members, the complainant promptly filed a police report for further action, which led to the arrest of the accused on the same day at their residence.

Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin served as the prosecuting officer in the case, while the accused did not have legal representation.
