Man succumbs to fatal two-vehicle collision

MUKAH: A collision between a lorry and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) along KM118, Jalan Sibu-Bintulu, has resulted in the death of a local man today (Feb 15).

Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias in a statement, said the accident happened around 8 am when both vehicles were travelling in opposite directions.

Investigations found that the collision occurred when the lorry travelling to Bintulu, had collided with the MPV at a sharp turn after it is believed to have swerved into the opposite lane.

“As a result, the victim identified as Chendang Umok, 47, was trapped in his seat and he had to be extricated by Tatau firefighters.

“The victim was later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Sungai Arip health clinic,” he said.

The body was later taken to Mukah Hospital for a post-mortem.

Meanwhile, the 30-year-old lorry driver managed to escape the accident without any injuries.
