Man suffers burns in house fire in Lubok Antu

BETONG: A man in his 50s suffered burns to his face and hands after his double-storey house caught fire at Rumah Lintong Nanga Kesit, Lubok Antu, early this morning.

According to the state Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, a team of eleven firemen from Betong station were rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 2.50am.

The journey to the scene, which was 70 kilometres away from the fire station, took some time, with Bomba having to overcome a suspension bridge and a heavy downpour.

“Upon arrival, the fire was already at its height, with 90 per cent of the house already destroyed by the blaze.

“Two victims managed to escape; however, a man identified as Kunsil Asun suffered burns to his face and hands,” Bomba said in a statement.

Kunsil was sent to a nearby clinic for treatment with the help of the villagers.

There were no other casualties from the fire.

The firemen wrapped up their operation at 6.30am.

The cause of the fire and the losses incurred are still under investigation.
