Maritime players heading for Indonesian expo

SIBU: The Sarawak Maritime Industry Association (SAMIN) will participate in an exhibition organised by the Indonesian Ship Owners Association at the Jakarta International Expo on May 15-17.

SAMIN chairman, Dr Renco Yong said, the event named Sea Indonesia 2023 will showcase the latest products, technology and services in the maritime shipping industry.

“It is shipbuilding and ship repair (SBSR) as well as various ancillary support services and will feature industry players from Indonesia and the Asia Pacific region.

“This will be the first overseas event that SAMIN will participate in since the Covid-19 outbreak in 2020,” he said during its annual general meeting at the Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry building, Saturday (March 11).

Dr Yong said they are targeting a maximum of 50 participants from member companies to join the delegation to the exhibition.

“During the exhibition, we hope to meet our counterparts from Indonesia and other countries to showcase our products and services as well as to learn from their experiences and insights, explore business opportunities, potential collaborations, and establish and strengthen networks,” he said.
Meanwhile, on SAMIN’s 5th anniversary celebration, Dr Yong said that a series of programmes will be held in conjunction with the celebration and all members are invited to participate.

“During this AGM the committee members decided to organise SAMIN’s anniversary celebration in October this year. While, at the end of this year, we will be holding three more exhibitions because we are going to the Malaysian international maritime exhibition in Kuala Lumpur.

“Also, in November, we will go to Rotterdam to participate in the Euro exhibition. In Germany and the Netherlands, they are already using battery electric chips, we went there to see how they do it, and what is the technology in those two countries.

“Finally, in December we will go to China. In China every year they will hold the world’s largest maritime exhibition in Shanghai, the association will organise a visit mission to China with our members. This is a series of events in conjunction with the 5th anniversary,” he said.
