ASAJAYA: The practice of circumcision has always been a tradition for Muslims but there is nothing to stop others from getting themselves circumcised for hygiene and health purposes.
At the Sunathon 2.0 programme which took place at the An-Najah Mosque in Asajaya here Sunday there were 82 boys from both the Muslim community and non-Muslims in the area.
Peter Melakun, 30, who came to get his son circumcised, commended the organisation of such a programme as it can ease the financial burden of parents.
“Today I brought my first son to get him circumcised. When I told him that he would be circumcised, my son did not show any signs of being scared.
“To reward him for his bravery and excitement, I bought him a present not only for Christmas but in conjunction with this circumcision,” he said.
His son, Christopher Peter, 12, said he was very excited because there were also other friends who came to get themselves circumcised together.
“I feel very happy today, because I am not the only one who is circumcised but also my other friends,” he said.
Fazida Zalani, 40, who also brought her third child to be circumcised, said they knew about the programme from her son’s school.
“My other children were circumcised at a private clinic, and the fee was about RM100 each.
“For me, this mass circumcision programme can ease the financial burden of parents and make things easier for children,” she said.
She was proud as her third child, Aniq Khairul Rizdwan Jakariya, who just turned 10, was brave enough to get himself circumcised.
“This is perhaps due to the excitement of this programme, they were bathed en masse by the firefighters so it helped to increase their enthusiasm in getting circumcised,” she said.
