KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng was well-pleased to see traders/hawkers abiding by the Movement Control Order (MCO).

So far, none of them has been fined by the council as they had complied with the rules after being warned just a few days ago, said Wee.

“I have been conducting daily checks myself every morning and I am very happy that everyone has been wearing masks and practising social distancing. We have not issued any compounds as the sellers and hawkers have been behaving well,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

Wee added that restaurant workers and staff members of supermarkets are also taking things seriously by wearing masks and practising social distancing.

The mayor also said that he had received overwhelming support from the people in his efforts to provide mobile broadcasting of reminders to the public to stay at home.

“Some told me that they heard the announcements in three languages from our vehicle passing by their houses, and they thanked MBKS for its initiative to encourage people to stay at home.

“Some of my acquaintances had also texted me and encouraged MBKS to continue its efforts,” he said.
