KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has pledged to serve its community fairly and ensure no one is left behind.

Its Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said MBKS steadfastly aspires to build a city that embraces one and all.

In their unwavering dedication to the well-being of citizens, he said MBKS proudly embraces transformative initiatives such as the Unicef Child Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI) and the Age-Friendly Cities and Communities Initiative (AFCC).

“Nurturing the dreams of our youth and cherishing the wisdom of our elders, we ardently listen to the heartfelt aspirations of our community. With a solid commitment, we stride toward creating a sustainable haven for generations to come,” he said in a statement in conjunction with the 35th Kuching City Day celebration, on Tuesday (August 1).

He added that MBKS has embarked on comprehensive city planning, adept financial management and embracing operational flexibility.

In its goal to be an age-friendly city, Wee said MBKS has partnered with Curtin Malaysia to ensure its efforts will bear fruits and is zealously focusing on enhancing pedestrian pathways and curating activities tailored to the seniors.

He also said MBKS ardently advocates for responsible and ethical practices, steeped in a resolute commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles.

“Our steadfast dedication to environmental sustainability, social inclusivity, and good governance is deeply ingrained in our city’s fabric.

“Collaborating with relevant stakeholders, we are steadfastly devoted to reducing our carbon footprint, preserving the bounties of nature, and sculpting an eco-conscious paradise for the generations that shall inherit our legacy.

“In equal measure, we strive to foster a community where equal opportunities and benefits flourish, meticulously upholding the tenets of transparency, accountability, and unwavering integrity in every facet of our work,” said Wee.

Meanwhile, the recognition of Kuching City as a City of Gastronomy by Unesco’s Creative Cities Network (UCCN), according to Wee, is a testament to the city’s boundless creativity and dedication to promoting sustainable urban development through art, craft, and culinary mastery.

On the 35th Kuching City Day celebration, Wee said this is the time to showcase the harmonious coexistence of diverse cultures, religions, and languages, epitomising the essence of unity to Malaysia and to the world.
