KUCHING: The condition of Jalan Kwong Lee Bank in Pending has become a pressing concern with the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) being called upon to take immediate action to address the extensive road damage plaguing the area.

Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong Wui Wui voiced her concerns regarding the hazardous conditions posed by the substantial pothole that had appeared by the roadside.

The pothole, which had been steadily expanding in size since the beginning of the year, were a clear danger to road users, she said.

“It is understood that the council was informed of the existence of the pothole in March and July.

“However, the issue remains unresolved.

“In addition, this road is a busy route and such a problem is indeed dangerous for users,” she said when met by reporters during a visit to the location today (Sept 14).

She pointed out that an attempt to mitigate the risk by placing plastic barriers in and around the pothole appeared to lack adherence to safety protocols.

“During rainy weather, the pothole fills with water and it will cause the plastic barriers to float, exacerbating the danger.

“So, when the council’s engineering department conducts repair work, they must ensure the safety of all road users.

“I believe this situation requires urgent rectification,” she said.
