KUCHING: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is advising everyone to exercise caution when posting on social media, particularly concerning the royal institutions.

In a statement, it’s crucial to avoid sharing or posting anything disrespectful or hurtful in relation to the royal institutions.

This advisory is prompted by the actions of irresponsible individuals who have been disseminating content that casts insults towards the royal institution.

“We will continue to monitor and curb the spread of inauthentic information, as well as malicious statements involving royal institutions. Any sharing of false, ugly, and threatening content is an offense under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (AKM) 1998. If convicted, individuals can be fined up to a maximum of RM50,000, face a year in prison, or both,” the statement said.

The public is reminded not to upload, share, or propagate social media content that insults the royal institution. Instead, kindly report such content to MCMC through the following link: https://aduan.mcmc.gov.my, and to PDRM.
